Learner Tips
Orlando Sleepeth is a simple but interesting piece. It contains two main sections: A & A1 and B & B1 played with some repeats, so its 'playing plan' is:
A - A - A1 - A1 - B - B1 - A
A - A - A1 - A1 - B - B1 - A
- Section A is four bars long and immediately repeated. It also repeats once more to finish the piece.
- Section A1 is also four bars long and immediately repeated. It's a modified version of the same melody transposed down a whole tone.
- Section B is eight bars long. It's in a different meter, has a different rhythm and a slightly faster tempo - The previous 4/4 (common time) time signature has changed to 6/4, and you can increase the tempo so that one bar of 6/4 lasts as long (more or less) as one bar of 4/4 did in the A section.
- Section B1 is eight bars long, transposed down a whole tone and modified. The metre and tempo are exactly the same as the B section.
