Key and Form
The home key of Opus 50 no. 6 is A minor, and the first section (bars 1to 8) is completely in the home key. The second section (from bar 9 to 16) begins in the relative major key of C major but soon makes its way back to A minor. Section three (bars 17 - 24) is a modified version of section 1.
Timing Matters
The time signature is 6/8 (six-eight), meaning there are two beats per bar or measure and each of the two beats equals a dotted quarter note. Most bars in this piece are filled with six 8th notes, so try to emphasise the 1st and 4th notes of those bars in order to stress the two beats of the bar. The title, Allegro refers to the tempo. It indicates a moderately fast tempo of around 120 beats per minute, but play it at any tempo that you can handle comfortably provided it makes the piece sound interesting. The small grace notes should be played as brief 'on-the-beat' pull-offs.
