Silent Night is probably the world's best known Xmas carol. The music was composed by Franz Gruber in 1818. The lyrics were written by Father Joseph Mor. Play the arpeggiated chords with a warm flowing feel throughout the piece.
Learners' Notes
The whole arrangement is in the first position of the guitar fretboard, i.e., every note lies within the first three frets. The main difficulty is in keeping the accompaniment flowing in an arpeggio style beneath the melody. Accent the melody notes to make sure the melody rings out clearly above the underlying harmony. Melody notes have upward pointing stems in the notation.
Some chords in the recording are rolled - i.e., spread out from top to bottom. This is optional and you can do it wherever you feel it enhances the song.
Error: bar 18 - Make the 2nd bass note B (string 5 fret 2) instead of D and leave out the G &F bass and harmony notes under the last melody note (B). Or include them if you like. Musically they're fine; they're just not in the recording.
Tab error: bar 22 - The 1st beat D harmony note on string 4 open is missing from the tab.
